Punt Formation

What do you use? Spread? Trips? Tight with 2 up backs and a personal protector?

Just a little thing that I just got our local high school to do that I would like to share ... It's a small school,so some things go un-noticed... While handing over some scouting report's to the practice field, they were ending practice with special team work ( kicking extra point ) ... I noticed are holder (right-handed as our kicker being right footed) being in a posision with his left knee on the ground with his arms extended to receive the snap... I believe this to be a subdual change that now holders have their right knee planted reaching out with less obstuction in front of them... Thus in part, giving them more freedom to twist and having a open field in front of them to make adjustments to receive the snap... To be honest with you all, I don't know when this style came to be and I'm still not sure if everyone does it this way ... WE didn't ... The first time that I noticed it was with a Chicago Bears oh 10 years ago maybe :P Thing is I saw a few weeks ago that it worked for us on a off the mark snap... Not that it was a winning point or anything like that... Still, kinduv thumped my chest a bit :)
Several things come to light with this style beside the added range of receiving the ball...
1. the un-procteced right leg of the holder isn't a issue... I have seen them in years past where they had this leg streched out and getting landed on taking out the knee...
2. The left leg can act like a fence or a stop of the left arm while the holder brings the ball back from the reach posision to the placement... It's somewhat comes automatic in a sense... Placement seems to be consistent to a degree
Well working hard to be a special team coach so back to the Institution I go... It was nice of them to let me out for awhile.. :P :P God Bless

I don't no what kind of formation one would call this.I guess maybe spread but whatever formation it is, I'm not for it till someone can come and sell me on it . It's where you let the receiving team come unblocked up the middle from the LOS , only to come full bore to 3 of your guys a few yards from the punter... Just can't see the advantage here ... Also seems to limit the punter on a full extension of the punt ...
By the way,I have been too or on those 2 places , need a coach :D
