Hey John I know that at the school I work at we do a midnight madness event like college does. We introduce the teams and coaches then we have a whole bunch of fun games. Like varsity versus staff and soccer versus cheerleading. The generally is a bbq and the whole student body gets involved. Hope this helps.

Hello everyone...I am looking for ideas to help build some excitement and fan support for our basketball program next season. I have some ideas already but would love to hear what has worked for any of you in the past.

Are you applying for a number of jobs, or is there 1 specifically that you are applying for where you know someone? To be honest, it is going to be extremely difficult to get any type of paid position. I would consider going the volunteer route to get some experience at the college level. I gave another member this same advice: The typical path to become a full time college assistant is to:

-Play college ball
-Stay on as a volunteer / GA while you finish your undergrad or grad degree.
-Continue in this capacity for 2-5 years (working hard - living poor) until a full time position opens up.

Some coaches will do the first two steps - then coach high school for a couple of years, maybe as a head coach, have some success and then get hired at their alma mater or another school where their previous college experience makes them an attractive hire. Getting hired at a college is not all WHO you know, but that is a big part of it. There are lots of good coaches out there - this site is proof of that - but if you're a head coach at a college and you know your job is on the line, WHO are you going to hire? Some unknown coach with little or no college experience, or someone you know from camps, recruiting, or from playing or coaching together - someone with college experience!

What type of job are you applying for? I have coached football, baseball, and softball at the college level and never played any beyond HS......
