Coaching & Family

Members: 13
Latest Activity: Nov 25

This group is for coaches who are married, have a family, or are in a relationship to discuss the strains that coaching can place on the family/relationship. This is a group designed to offer support and feedback for those experiencing those strains. We encourage those who have managed to successfully balance family/relationships and coaching to share what has worked for them.

Football season is a tough time for the family. Coaches wives are very special women. That's why I think it is important for the wives to sit together during the games and have a special coaches family halftime salute during a particular game.

One suggeston is to live as close to the office as possible. I can go home for lunch and dinner. I spend some time, even 10-15 minutes after dinner with my kids, then go back to the office. I am fortunate to be coaching at a Christian school that allows time for meals (1 hour for lunch and 2 hours for dinner)

Family time during the season is tough. I have been married to the BEST COACHES WIFE for 22 years now. Our oldest daughter turns 18 tomorrow, and our youngest is 15. In 22 years of marriage, my wife has missed 4 total games. I know I have missed a heck of alot more family gatherings because of coaching.
The best thing we have done is go away for a weekend at the Coaches Outreach Program. Christian coaches and their spouses get together for the weekend and discuss problems, concerns, troubles, and great times. They do have a website: coachesoutreach.org.
