DT sticks to the hip of the pulling guard. If it's a midline trap, the MLB is reading the center anyway. If he reads "earhole" on the center he attacks opposite gap. Like you said, it takes lots of reps for practice. We also have line stunts we run, so we don't read all the time.

How do you guys teach your kids to defend the trap block

I think it is great. I would also say you have to rep it alot so it becomes like clock work to your kids.

What are your thoughts on "reading hats" with the DL?

Once we fill our selves get hit in the hip by the double team we drive our outside leg between the two blockers and sumo as we call it basically hold the point of attack. I teach two run game mantras that i learned from a great defensive line coach. 1 man cant block me, 2 men cant move me. When we sumo the whole goal is to take 2 for 1 and not get moved.

We dont corkscrew and take the base blocker to the ground because so many teams combo now. if we get combod we will square back up and make a tackle. This is how Pete Jenkins teaches it at the eagles. In my opinion he is the best in the business.
