I did not. That picture is about all the time I spent with him. One on one interaction was limited with a couple hundred people at the clinic.

To all good coaches, coaching is a passion. And some people, regardless as to whether they are a wife (or in my case most of the times I am dealing with friends), I have found that I need to tell them not how important coaching is to me, but the kid…

Really, Scrubbing Bubbles

Whether you are an athlete, coach, or an everyday pedestrian walking down the street, the odds are during your lifetime you have dirtied a pair of shoes. Grass stains, dirt stains, or scuffs, sneakers are bound to get filthy. It's just what happens. But the next step is completely up to you, how do you get though shoes looking the brand new again, or at least better than what they looked like before.

The answer, Scrubbing Bubbles.

Now I actually have some credibility when it comes to this subj… Continue

Coach, I love being the Athletic Director. This is my forth year as AD and Head Football Coach. The reason i got into coaching was because I get to help young men and women become great young adults. As the AD you get to help all athletes and make sure that you have good coaches that want to be there for kids. The only bad thing is all the time you put into it. It is not a 8 to 4 job. Sometimes its a 6 am to 10 pm day. To sometime dont see your family. You to go work before they get up and you get home and they are in bed. At one time I was the Head Football coach, Boys and Girls Head Track Coach and AD, and I had to give something up. Being at Basketball Games takes a lot of your time too. You can have games up to 5 or 6 days a week. but then again you get to help a lot of student athletes. I have since given up the Head Track job so i could get a little time off. I also do everything for the Mid-School here.

Hey Matt, As for workouts, some original but majority are from the various camps and different training systems I'm part of. I spend time at college camps & combines and meet with speed trainers from different combines. Lots of good stuff out there I take what I like and whats the right fit for what we do.

Any type of administration or coaching is going to require lots of hours--it's the quality of those hours I guess. And the time you get off. Anything at the lower level colleges is going to be less stressful, and involve more vacation time than anything at the high school level. I always wanted to work at the college level, get my doctorate, and then be a professor--that's where the money and easy life is. I finally have the opportunity to work on my doctorate, for free, but it's an hour from where I work, and 2 hours from my home, so not feasible. I would just get as much experience as possible while you are young in a variety of areas to see what you like and build your resume. If I listed every single place I worked, it would take 4 pages on my resume. I have a coaching resume, an administrtive resume, a recreation resume, a fitness/strength training resume, and a teaching resume!! I use whichever one is most appropriate for the type of job I apply for. Just get experience and network my friend!

Yeah, actually I have!! I have been mulling some ideas over, but wanted to get the site to grow a bit first. The biggest obstacle is how to get coaches to travel from all over the country--would have to have a big draw to get them to commit. Did you have any specific ideas? At some point, once the site grows, I am going to have to hire some staff to start handling some of these things, but at this point, CoachBook isn't profitable enough to do that =)

Any luck hooking on at the college level?

What year are you in school? You will increase your chances for a GA job DRAMATICALLY if you get on as a college student asst. Not only will the experience help you, but you'll be making college connections.

Hey Matt, thanks for the reply. If you really want to be a GA, your best bet is to get some experience as a student asst. at the college level. Most GA's either played in college or were student assistants. Here are a couple of posts I made in regards to guys who were looking to coach football at the college level:
