I think Chris' idea is great! I have used similar approaches to other skills -- exactly like you say to force the athlete not to over-think. Another key to this approach is will be to get them to ignore the dropped balls during the drill. I know lot…

If it were me, I would throw tons of passes at them at a much closer distance 5-10 yds. at a much faster rate. Most of the times with catching kids tend to either react late or over react to a catch (forcing the catch). I think giving them less time…

This is a really good idea. A hockey teammate of mine was an above average houseleague goalie until he got his eyes checked. He turned into an amazing goaltender after that. Unfortunately he was almost 18 by the time he found out needed contacts or…

I did something similar to hot potato, but I called it machine gun. 1 guy would stand about 8 feet across from a line of 4 or 5 guys who all had a ball. Each guy with a ball would shovel pass it to the receiver who would catch and shovel it back as…

By the way, what team is daughter playing for? Send me her schedule and I'll see if I'll be at any of her tournaments.

Hey Steve, how is your season going?

We are still trying to recruit Christina Huchison. She visited last week and is coming back for an overnight Monday. Hopefully we can land her!

Steve, the 3 strongman things I would include--tire flips, sled pulling/pushing, and sand bag stacking onto a tall object. And you cn be really creative in getting the gear to do it for cheap. Hopefully I'll have my video up soon in the next couple of days and will give you some ideas.

2-3 sport kids are generally the norm around here as well and its good for them. But its good you are focusing on the weights with your kids, it will make a huge difference in '09, mark my words. As for Vanderbilt, yes their entire athletic program utilizes the kettlebells and this year the football team was ranked the highest in the school history I think.

Sounds like you have a good thing going if you've been there that long.

Just wanted to comment here in case you dont get back to my vid, Yes all of the Kettlebell exercises are core specific-If done correctly. I know that's hard to believe because of the subtle way in which you do KB work but its absolutely true. Let me explain, although its hard to see, the thighs, glutes, and abs are all in a tensed state. This is what drives the KB up, not your arms. Similar to Olympic and powerlifting. Hip drive!!! Can you hear the breathing? Imagine being in a position to take a punch in the stomach, being kicked in the thigh, and kicked in the rear. If done correctly, none of them would phase you!!! Nothing better for core work (including the lower back) than Kettlebells!!!!! Again, if done correctly! Now if you want just ab work, yes you can perform many exercises just for those muscles utilizing the KB.
